Pressure in the controlled system (regulator outlet
pressure) registers beneath the diaphragm of the
regulator and opposes the force provided by the
predetermined spring compression. When regulator
spring force exceeds diaphragm force exerted by the
outlet pressure, the spring will keep the valve plug
open to permit additional ow to the downstream
system. As downstream demand decreases the outlet
pressure will increase. This increase registers on the
diaphragm and the valve plug moves closer to the
orice to decrease the ow rate.
